Porsche and BMW show off their apps for Apple Watch

German manufacturers Porsche and BMW will be one of the first car makers in the world to offer the opportunity to connect their vehicles with the Apple Watch. The Porsche Car Connect app will allows drivers to lock the vehicle remotely and check to see if the windows, doors and sunroof are closed. It will also provide directions back to the car and activate its horn and lights so the owner can easily find the vehicle a crowded parking lot. Owners of Plug-in hybrid Porsche vehicles can also use the app to activate the climate control system and check the status of their car including the current range and remaining charging time.

The BMW i Remote app is very similar as it will allow its users to check the status of their i3 or i8 vehicle and will display critical information such as the battery’s charge level, available range and door lock status. This app is very similar to what is already available on the iphone. The app will also alert the driver when the battery is fully recharged and will also allows the drivers to access the vehicle’s fully climate control system.  In addition to vehicle information drivers will also be able to get navigation directions back to their car.
