Nissan Motor Limited, Japan announced on June 29th, 2011, that it will launch its global sedan called ‘Sunny’ in India by the end of 2011. The sedan is expected to be priced between Rs. 700,000 and Rs. 900,000.
The car will be launched in the mid-sized sedan segment of the Indian market. It will be based on the Micra platform and will be manufactured at Nissan’s Chennai (India) plant. Nissan also has plans to enter the MPV vehicles segment with its new product which will be jointly manufactured with Ashok Leyland.
Nissan is currently working towards improving the sales of its car Micra in India (which has not been selling well due to its high pricing and lack of extensive dealership network in the country) by increasing its dealerships in India from 36 dealerships to more than 100 dealerships by 2013. The company has sold 13,000 units of the car till March 2011 and aims to double its sale in the 2011-2012 financial year.
