Nissan to launch a small car below Micra

To notch up its sales in India, Nissan is working on a new small car. The car is expected to be priced between Rs. 200,000-400,000 and will take on Maruti Alto, Chevrolet Spark and Hyundai Santro.

Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, Nissan Motor India, stated that Nissan is seriously thinking of launching a car below Micra as it sees great potential in the small car segment in India.

Nissan in joint partnership with Ashok Leyland is currently working on an MPV which is slated to be launched in 2012. The MPV would compete with Toyota Innova. Also on cards is the launch of Nissan’s fifth model- the Sunny sedan, which would hit the Indian roads in October 2011.

Nissan aims to triple its sales by the end of this fiscal year (2011-2012) to 40,000 units and hopes its models Sunny and Micra would help boost the sales. The company is also expanding its dealerships across the country to generate more sales. Apart from selling X-Trail SUV and Teana premium, Nissan also sells the 370Z sports car in the country.
