Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company has announced that its Datsun brand of car models will be revived for the first time since 1981 and will be targeted at the emerging markets such as Indonesia, Russia and India. The company has plans to launch two Datsun models in each of these markets including the Indian automobile market every year in order to boost sales.
Nissan expects to increase sales with its Datsun brand and account for about 50 percent of its total sales in India by March 2017. Moreover, the company plans to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai India in the small car volume segment with the lower end Datsun car models.
In an attempt to drive further into the Indian automobile market, Nissan has also entered a partnership with Ashok Leyland commercial vehicle manufacturer develop and manufacture car products which may include both commercial as well as an entry level small car.
