To attract customers, Nissan India has offered a cash discount of Rs. 1,00,000 on the X-Trail SUV, which is available in three variants. Starting at Rs. 22,00,000 for the base model, the Nissan X-Trail price range goes up to Rs. 26,05,000 for its top-of-the-range automatic variant.
Imported as a CBU, Nissan X-Trail comes with a high price tag and therefore has been unable to attract Indian customers. In July 2011, only 35 units of the X-Trail were sold, while its competitors faired much better, as Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Captiva clocked 1060 and 113 units respectively. BMW X1, which like X-Trail falls in the higher end of the price spectrum, faired better than X-Trail and managed clocked 484 units for July 2011.
In comparison to their other competitors, X-Trail and BMW X1 are similarly priced, but BMW X1 packs better features for the same price. For example, for Rs. 25,00,000, X-Trail comes with a 6-speed manual transmission, while BMW on the other hand offers an automatic transmission. Likewise while the 2.0 litre, four cylinder diesel engine in X-Trail churns out 150 PS of maximum power, the BMW X1 generates 177 PS.
