Nissan Motor announces the commencement of production of Nissan SUNNY

Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd. (NMIPL) on August 30, 2011, celebrated the commencement of the production of its ‘Made-in-India’ mid-sized sedan Nissan SUNNY at its manufacturing unit at Oragadam, near Chennai.

Nissan SUNNY was unveiled in India on August 3, 2011, and is currently under production to be rolled out during the forthcoming festive season. The car is manufactured with 85 percent local content, out of which 40 percent of the components are sourced from Chennai. The dynamic upscale design combined with quality features trademark of the brand are expected to make the sedan popular among Indian consumers, especially young families looking for a medium sized sedan.

According to Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director and CEO, NMIPL the commencement of production of Nissan SUNNY is another milestone for Nissan India, as the company wanted the sedan to be available during the upcoming festival season and has thus successfully accelerated the work program to meet the schedule. Mr. Tokuyama also added “Nissan SUNNY will help to leverage our position as one of the key players in the Indian market”.

Mr. Kou Kimura, CEO and MD, Renault Nissan Alliance India Pvt. Ltd. (RNAIPL), stated the start of the production of Nissan’s SUNNY at the Oragadam plant apart from reinstating Nissan’s commitment to India, also brought to foreground the high-performance level of the company’s state of the art plant which is manufacturing its second model in less than 15 months.
