The Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan’s Indian arm is considering launching new car models to position below the company’s entry level Micra hatchback in the Indian car market. According to Mr. Takayuki Ishida Managing Director and CEO Nissan Motor India, the market requirements and dynamics are being taken into account to reach an appropriate pricing for the new car launches.
Mr. Ishida added that the company aims to have presence in all the passenger car segments in the Indian auto industry and is planning to launch 1-2 new car models each year. The company is still however studying the needs of the Indian consumers as well as the requirements of the car with respect to the climate and road conditions in India.
The carmaker is also targeting doubling its car sales in the fiscal 2012-13 in comparison to its sales registered in the year 2011-12 of 33,000 units. Moreover, it also plans to expand its dealership network from 74 outlets to 100 by the end of 2012-13.
