Nissan India to ramp up production to full capacity at Oragadam plant

Nissan India, the Indian arm of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan is planning to increase the production at its Oragadam plant near Chennai to achieve full capacity of 4,80,000 units annually.

The move by the Japanese automaker is aimed to fulfill and meet the export demand. The carmaker recently overtook Maruti Suzuki in terms of exports to become the second largest car exporter in India, shipping 1,16,000 units in the fiscal 2013-14.

Currently, the automaker has a capacity 4,00,000 units annually and plans to reach full production capacity by the end of 2014, stated Mr. Kenichiro Yomura President (India Operations) MD and CEO of Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL).

The Japanese carmaker has already made India an export hub for the auto markets in Europe and West Asia where it ships the Micra hatchback and the Sunny sedan.

The automaker is also planning to launch the Datsun Go Plus and the new Sunny sedan in the Indian market.
