Nissan Motor India has announced the increase in prices of its car models Micra hatchback and the Sunny sedan to be implemented from January 20, 2012. The increase in price is a measure to curb the impact of high input costs and the high import costs due to the depreciation of the Indian Rupee. The Micra petrol versions will see a hike of Rs. 3,000 and the diesel versions will be costlier by Rs. 12,000. The Sunny Sedan petrol variants will be costlier by Rs. 5,000.
The company has however not increased the prices on the Sunny sedan diesel variants which were launched in early January 2012 and were receiving bookings from December 2011. According to Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama Nissan Motor India MD, the company in order to maintain the momentum of the business in wake of the rising input costs and depreciating Rupee had to revise the prices of its car models.
Among other car manufacturers in the Indian automobile industry who have increased the prices from January 2012 due to the same reasons are Maruti Suzuki and General Motors.
