Nissan to increase exports from India

Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan Motors is planning to increase its production capacity in India with the aim of boosting its exports and becoming the largest car exporter in India. While the carmaker is the fastest growing car exporter in India with its exports having doubled to 1,00,909 cars in the 2011-12 fiscal, the largest exporters of car currently is Hyundai India with 2,37,000 car exports in 2011-12.

The car exports of the Japanese automaker have been driven by the increase in demand for compact cars in Europe and South American markets. It now plans to expand its manufacturing operations in India to produce more than 4,00,000 cars and export the majority of its output to overtake Hyundai as the largest car exporter in India. Out of its total car production in India, 85 percent is dedicated for exports to overseas markets.

The company’s exports include completely built units of Micra hatchback for markets such as Africa and Europe and knocked down units of the Sunny sedan to Egypt where it is assembled by a local subsidiary.
