Nissan becomes the second largest car exporter in India

Nissan India, the Indian arm of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan has overtaken Maruti Suzuki India in export numbers to become the second largest car exporter from India for the fiscal 2013-14.

The automaker has witnessed a growth of 17 percent in its exports in the fiscal 2013-14 shipping 1,18,000 units to overseas markets. In comparison, Maruti Suzuki exported a total of 99,832 units in the same period at a decline of 16 percent. Leading the exports tally, Hyundai Motor India has retained its position as the largest car exporter in India with export of 2,04,000 units to overseas markets.

According to industry experts, the decline in the exports by Maruti Suzuki is attributable to the change in the import duty regulations in markets such as Alergia and other African countries. A new import duty agreement has been established between African countries and the European automakers enabling them to avail car products at a 10-20 percent lower duty from Europe in comparison to India.

This situation has enabled Nissan to take the second position in the export operations in India. The carmaker also expects the Datsun brand to enhance its export operations.
