Mercedes-Benz to tap the potential in smaller cities

To maintain the rise in its growth curve and to beat the competition, Mercedes-Benz will strengthen its portfolio of offerings and expand its network across the tier-III and tier-IV cities, stated Mr. Peter Honegg, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India. According to Mr. Honegg, the company will soon launch its car leasing business in India to become a one-stop solutions provider for both existing and new buyers.

Mr. Honegg added the company wanted to cater to the growing demand of Tier-III and tier-IV cities in India where improved farm productivity and increase in purchasing power had boosted the demand for luxury cars. Cities like Delhi and Mumbai have been losing their market share to smaller cities, stated Honegg. The company will also expand its dealership network and going forward plans to add 10 to 15 dealers every year.

Mercedes-Benz will soon introduce more diesel variants as the Indian automobile industry has been witnessing an increase in demand for diesel cars. Talking about leasing of the cars, Honegg said, the company has geared up the products and will be launching it in the coming weeks, starting with metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and then extending it to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata.
