Mercedes-Benz India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has launched the A Class compact luxury hatchback in the Indian market at an entry level price of Rs 21,93,000 (Ex-showroom Mumbai).
The new luxury hatchback car model has created a new entry level price for the carmaker’s Indian car portfolio. The entry level model A 180 CDI is a diesel version powered by a 2.2 litre diesel engine and boasts of a mileage of 20.6 kilometers per liter making it the most fuel efficient luxury car model in India.
The petrol version of the A Class, the A 180 Sport priced at Rs 22,73,000, is equipped with a 1.6 liter petrol engine and offers a mileage of around 15 kilometers per liter.
The A Class by the German automaker is targeted at the affluent youth in India. According to Mr. Eberhard Kern CEO and Managing Director Mercedes-Benz India, the new luxury hatchback reflects the changing customer trend of compact luxury cars in India.
The bookings for the A Class had been opened on May 10, 2013 and the automaker has already received more than 90,000 bookings since.
The luxury hatchback will initially be imported as a completely built unit in India and local assembly of the car model is expected to commence in 2014.
