Mercedes-Benz India looks at small cars to boost sales

Mercedes-Benz India, the Indian subsidiary of the German luxury carmakers is looking to rely upon its premium small cars from the class A and class B in order to regain market share in the luxury segment in India. The company plans to boost its car sales and growth and attain a three-fold increase in the annual sales to 25,000 units by the year 2015. By 2020 the company is targeting a further 10-fold increase in its annual sales to achieve 1,00,000 units.

According to Mr. Debashish Mitra, Director Sales and Marketing Mercedes Benz India, the company expects to launch the first of its small premium cars in India by the end of 2012. He adds that the company has lagged behind competitors owing to its absence in various segments, one of which is the small car premium segment. Among its plans to increase market share and growth rate, the company will bring to India its complete line-up of car models.
