Maruti Suzuki India to transport cars through railways

Maruti Suzuki India, the largest car manufacturer in India is planning to commence the shipping and transport of its manufacturer car products via railways across India. The carmaker will avail specially designed rail wagons which are capable of carrying larger number of cars.

The use of railways for transportation of cars will save costs for the carmaker and enable cheaper and more efficient delivery to stockyards. The current means of transport being used by the automaker are trucks which are capable of holding 10 cars at a time. The specially designed train coaches will hold about 310 cars which in turn would make the process of transportation of cars from production facilities to stockyard much faster and efficient.

The Japanese car manufacturer is going to be the first automaker in India to avail the railway service for transporting manufactured vehicles across the country. The service will commence in the month of January 2013 and about 30 percent of the production will be shipped using the railways.
