Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer has plans to set up a skill development centre in the state of Gujarat. The company is already in the process of investing Rs 4,000 crore in the state to establish a manufacturing facility. The company’s plans have been intimated to Mr. Narendra Modi Chief Minister Gujarat by Mr. Osamu Suzuki Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corp, the parent company to the automaker.
Mr. R C Bhargava Chairman Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) stated that 500 people would initially be sent to Japan for training to get accustomed to the Japanese culture of working. The skill development institute to be set up in the state will train workers on how to function in an industrial work environment.
The Gujarat plant which is in the process of being established will be ready for production by 2015-16. The level of production at the new plant will depend on the market conditions and growth in the Indian auto industry, stated Mr. Bhargava.
