Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India is planning to ramp up the production of the automatic version of the newly launched Celerio hatchback. The carmaker aims to reduce the waiting period of the car model which is currently available after a wait of about 4 months.
The Celerio hatchback since its launch in February 2014 has received more than 57,800 bookings, 43 percent out of which account for the automatic version.
The automaker has already increased the production of the Celerio from the initial number of 4,500 to 6,500. While the automatic version has a waiting period of about 4 months, the manual variant is readily available.
A major reason for the shortage of the Celerio production is due to the constrained supply of the automated manual transmission which is currently being sourced from the Italian component major Magneti Marelli. However, Magneti Marelli is soon expected to shift its AMT production to Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar facility by the year 2015.
