Maruti Suzuki India to open first Institute of Driving and Traffic Research

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has entered an agreement with the state government of Bihar to set up the first Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in the eastern India region.

The automaker has signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the state governments of Bihar as well as Orissa and will be setting up two more centers in the state of Orissa in addition to the one in Bihar, stated Mr. Mahesh Rajouria General Manager (Driving Training) Maruti Suzuki India (MSI).

Mr. Rajouria further stated that the total of three centers set up in the public-private partnership (PPP) model by Maruti Suzuki will be training about 60,000 people annually. He added that in addition to driving training, the automaker will also be providing strategic support to the governments for the implementation of a road safety plan across the state.

The three training centers are expected to be operation by the end of year 2014 and each center will be capable of handling 20,000 people annually.
