Maruti Suzuki India April 2014 sales decline by 11.4 percent

Maruti Suzuki, the largest car manufacturer in India has witnessed a decline of 11.4 percent in its sales for the month of April 2014. The carmaker sold a total of 86,196 units in the month in comparison to 97,302 units sold in the month of April 2013.

The domestic sales of the carmaker fell by 12.6 percent in April 2014 with the sales of 79,119 units in the domestic market. In comparison, the carmaker had sold 90,523 units in the domestic market in April 2013.

The compact segment of the carmaker comprising the Swift, the Estilo, the Ritz and the newly launched Celerio was the only segment of the automaker to have gained sales figures by 9.9 percent in April 2014 over the April 2013 numbers.

The mini car segment including the M800, the Alto, the A-Star and the WagonR witnessed a decline of 25.4 percent in sales. Sales in the compact sedan segment consisting of the DZire compact sedan also fell by 17.7 percent.

The exports of the carmaker however improved by 4.4 percent, shipping 7,077 units in the month of April 2014 as compared with 6,779 units sold in April 2013.
