Maruti Suzuki India announces plans for diesel engine plant

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced its plans to make an investment of Rs 1,700 crore to establish a new diesel engine unit at its Gurgaon facility. The new engine plant will commence operations by mid 2013 with an initial annual capacity of 1,50,000. An additional sum of Rs 900 crore will also be invested at the company’s new research and development facility at Rohtak in Haryana.

According to Mr. R. C. Bhargava Chairman MSIL, the new plant will begin production with an initial investment of Rs 950 crore as part of the first phase. The capacity would be increased to manufacture 3,00,000 units annually by the year 2014.

Maruti Suzuki’s sales figures would reach around 2,40,000 units in 2011-12 and it targets to increase these figures by 1,50,000 units in the fiscal 2012-13.
