According to sources, the Japanese automaker is frustrated with the repeated disruption of production and wants to at the earliest zero in on another location to carry out its expansion plans. Not only has the production been hit regularly due to labor unrest, but more importantly, the company is facing a fall in the demand of its product due to uncertainty of delivery.
Suzuki Chairman Mr. Osamu Suzuki met Gujarat Chief Minister MR. Narendra Modi on September 8, 2011, and it looks like the company is set to approve the proposal to invest Rs. 18,000 crore, including Rs 6,000 crore by auto ancillaries, in Gujarat. The plant site in Gujarat which would be spread over 1,000 acres of land would be the largest site for Suzuki globally and will have a capacity to roll-out 20,00,000 units annually.
