Maruti Suzuki to acquire land for production in Gujarat

India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is planning to acquire land for a long debated and planned production plant in Gujarat. The land acquisition will be completed after the month of March 2012 as opposed to the earlier plans of the acquisition completion by November 2011. The company targets to commence production by the year 2016 for which it will need to start building the infrastructure for the facility by 2013.

The investment that the company is likely to make for the land acquisition is around Rs 300 crore, says Mr. R.C. Bhargava Chairman of Maruti Suzuki. The company is not planning to start production on its Gujarat plant until it achieves optimum production capacity at the rest of its plants in India.

Maruti Suzuki’s decision to establish a plant in Gujarat is due to the labor strikes at its Manesar facility in 2011.
