Maruti Suzuki for the first time donated its engines and powertrains worth Rs. 150 crore to educational institutions. The move is seen as an attempt to tap the skills of automobile engineering students.
To enable the engineering students to manufacture their own prototype of a Formula car during the four day SAE India-Maruti Suzuki event at Irungattukottai race track (in Tamil Nadu), Maruti Suzuki donated over 40 units of 800 CC engines and powertrains. Maruti Suzuki has partnered with Supra SAE India for the event which intends to give the students the opportunity to make a model Formula car fitted with Maruti engines and power transmission.
Maruti Suzuki India General Manager (technical administration) Deepak Sawkar at the race track told PTI, “We decided to give them the engines and powertrain so that it will not only help them develop their skill, but also make others get interested in automotive engineering.” Catering primarily to the students with a passion for automobile industry, the event provides these students a platform to exhibit their skills. The selection of the students from various colleges was done by SAE.
