Maruti discloses fuel efficiency of all its models

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), last week, became the first auto company in the country to disclose its fuel economy details, in compliance with the ‘voluntary labelling programme’ announced by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in September 2008.

Under the scheme, three government-approved testing agencies – Automotive Research Association of India, Pune, Vehicles Research and Development Establishment, Ahmednagar and International Centre of Automotive Technology, Manesar – assess a given vehicle’s fuel efficiency before arriving at a figure.

Among diesel cars, both the Maruti Swift and the DZire, at 21 km per litre, gave the best fuel efficiency, while the recently launched A-Star topped the petrol segment with a mileage of 19.6 km per litre.
