Maruti Suzuki this week rolled out the 100,000th unit of its small car, the A-Star. The car was launched in November 2008, and is Maruti’s flagship export model. Over 50,000 units of the A-Star have been exported so far to 44 countries. These include the Netherlands, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, Angola, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Morocco, Libya, New Zealand and some Latin American nations. Maruti Suzuki’s Chairman, R C Bhargava, told media persons that the A-Star has been doing extremely well since its launch and that the company expects to export 75,000 units of the car by the end of this fiscal. Recently, Japanese car company Nissan increased its order for the A-Star to 54,000 units, from the earlier 30,000 units. Nissan sells the car in Europe under the brand name ‘Pixo’. Bhargava said the total A-Star export in 2009-10 will cross 1.3 lakh units.
The A-Star from Maruti Suzuki is a wonderful car. The A-Star is powered by the K-Series engine, which is very eco-friendly.
