Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) have announced its decision to increase the production of the recently launched Rexton sports utility vehicle (SUV) with the aim of lowering the waiting period for the new SUV.
The automaker stated that it plans to increase production of the SUV by at least 500 units in the month of January 2013. The company expects the increase to reduce the outstanding bookings for the Rexton which currently has a waiting period of 4-8 weeks.
Mr. Pravin Shah Chief Executive (Automotive Division) M&M stated that the carmaker is currently looking at 1,300 bookings for the Rexton posted at the end of December 2012. The Quanto SUV by the Indian SUV maker is also facing a waiting period of 4-6 weeks.
Commenting on the development, Mr. Shah stated that as the demand for the Quanto, the Rexton and the XUV continue to increase, the company has already ramped up production in the month of December 2012. He added that the production will again increase the production levels in the fourth quarter (January – March 2013) to reduce the waiting period.
