Mahindra to introduce Verito Electric car in India

Indian utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) plans to launch an electric version of its Verito sedan. The electric version is expected to hit the Indian roads by 2014, stated Mr. Chetan Maini Chief Technology Officer Mahindra Reva.

Mahindra Reva has been in the process of ‘electrifying’ M&M’s passenger car portfolio since 2010 and is also developing the electric technology for its light commercial vehicles. Mr. Maini stated that electric versions of the Bolero SUV and the Scorpio SUV are also technologically feasible.

He added that in order to successfully incorporate electric vehicles into the Indian automobile market, there is a need for an adequate number of charging stations and favorable market conditions.

Mahindra Reva, a part of Mahindra & Mahindra is the only electric car manufacturer in India and currently produces the Mahindra Reva electric car with another 4 seater electric car planned for a launch during the festival season in 2012.
