The Indian SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has announced that it has developed an electric version of the Verito sedan and plans to introduce the same in the Indian car market by mid 2014.
The announcement was made by the President Automotive and Farm Equipment Sector M&M, Mr. Pawan Goenka. The electric version of the Verito sedan has been developed by Reva. The electric vehicle division of M&M, Reva has also developed the e2o electric vehicle which was launched in the Indian car market on April 4, 2013.
Mr. Goenka further stated that although the prototype is ready, the Verito is a heavier car than the e2o and hence adjustments and optimization of technology would be required before launching the car.
The carmaker is also in the process of developing electric versions of its light commercial vehicles such as the Gio and the Maxximo. These will be launched after the assessment of the market response to the launch of e2o electric vehicle.
