Mahindra maintains lead over Tata Motors in October 2012

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the Indian utility vehicle manufacturer has managed to maintain its lead in passenger sales over Tata Motors, the third largest automobile manufacturer in India. M&M has reportedly sold more passenger vehicles than Tata Motors for the period April to October 2012.

In the period April-October 2012, M&M has sold more than 1,58,000 units in comparison to 1,51,727 units sold by Tata Motors. The leader in passenger sales has been Maruti Suzuki India followed by Hyundai Motor India. While Tata Motors is said to hold the third position, M&M’s sales have surpassed those of Tata Motors in terms of cumulative sales in the fiscal 2012-13.

M&M has recently launched its first car model, the Quanto compact utility vehicle for the small car segment. It is being speculated that the automaker’s strong diesel car portfolio has helped garner higher sales due to the recent sales trend shift from petrol to diesel cars with the frequent hike in petrol price.
