Mahindra & Mahindra to set up a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu

Mahindra & Mahindra will set up a manufacturing plant along with a testing facility at Cheyyar, around 100 km from Chennai. The automaker has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government for the same.

The plant will be the second facility after the company’s Chakan plant in Maharashtra. Mahindra and Mahindra, Automotive and Farm Equipment sector President, Mr. Pawan Goenka stated that on the 400 acres land, the company in the first phase will set up a proving ground- a testing facility, using 150 acres of land, with a minimal investment of Rs. 100-Rs.150 crore. Mr. Goenka further added that the company had committed an investment of Rs. 1,800 crore planned to be spread over seven years adding to its Chakan plant, after which it will focus on Cheyyar plant. The company plans to add an automotive plant at its Cheyyar facility in the second phase.

Mr. Goenka declined to elaborate on the products to be manufactured from Cheyyar facility, but stated that it would be a single line plant, manufacturing one product.
