Jaguar Land Rover to manufacture more models in India

Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is analysing and evaluating the assembly of its vehicles in India. Currently, the Freelander 2 is the only car, the smallest in the JLR stable, to be assembled in India at Tata’s Pune plant. By doing so the company expects to develop its luxury car market share in India and increase it up to 20 percent, selling more than 20,000 units annually.

Its luxury cars, the Evoque and the XF compete with cars such as the BMW 5 series and Audi Q5 and the Mercedes E-class. Thus, assembling these cars in India would help the company put up competitive pricing in for the Indian market.

JLR India Head, Mr. Rohit Suri stated, “If there is a business case, we will consider assembling more models, even including the Jaguar cars, in India.” He further said that the evaluation process of the plan is still going on and the decision is yet to be finalized.
