The Tata owned Jaguar, is expected to build a small entry level sedan in India by 2015. It is said that the new small entry level sedan will be produced to increase sales in India and China, but more importantly to kick start sales again in the US market. The reason why Jaguar is being forced to produce a small car is because of strict and new Corporate Average Fuel Economy regulations that will start in the US by 2016. So in reality they are just making a small car to compensate for their bigger ones. Makes sense, but then they should also aim to design it well and price it right, otherwise its just another route to producing bad cars. But knowing Jaguar the car will be decent indeed and not near as cheap as we would like it to be. Engine variants could come in the form of 1.5 or 1.8 diesel and petrol mills and the sophisticated 8 and 9-speed transmissions. Either way if the car is being built within Indian boundaries we could very well see a competitive luxury vehicle from Jaguar in India because of the dismissal of import costs. Things could get real good for us if this is to be true.
Hope we produce India designed world top selling cars. Wish and pray that the JLR team meets all success in this venture.
