Isuzu, the Japanese automobile manufacturer has launched the MU-7 sports utility vehicle in India at Rs 22,30,000. This is the carmaker’s first India made car manufactured at the Hindustan Motors plant in Chennai.
The Japanese automaker has struck a contract manufacturing agreement with the Indian carmaker Hindustan Motors. Meanwhile, Isuzu is in the process of setting up its own manufacturing plant which will have a total production capacity of 1,20,000 units annually. The new plant which cost the carmaker a Rs 3,000 crore investment will commence operations by the year 2016.
Isuzu currently has a total of eight dealerships in the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and plans to open outlets in Mumbai and Delhi in the first half of 2014. The carmaker targets a total of 60 outlets by the year 2015-16. It also plans to increase localization of parts for car production to a 100 percent by the year 2016.
