Mercedes Benz on Monday (July 18, 2011) sold a fleet of 90 cars to a car rental company in Gurgaon. It is the biggest sale deal for the auto manufacturer in India till date and also is a testimony to the expansion of the rental market for luxury cars in India. The corporates come across as the biggest consumers for the luxury car rental services. Their capability to spend large amounts of money on their corporate clients and business heads allows them to hire the most luxurious cars.
High end car rentals provide a wide range of luxury cars accompanied by well groomed chauffeurs along with a multitude of other services such as WiFi and other entertainment medium such as built-in screens, etc. The prices start from Rs. 6,000 and stretch to as much as Rs, 1,50,000 for a limit of 80 kms or for 8 hours. According to the data provided by prominent car rental companies in the Delhi/NCR region, the luxury cars contribute upto 20% of their total revenue. Apart from the corporate, customers for these rental companies include hotels, airlines, law firms, consultancies and embassies.
