Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) launched a new model of the Sonata, called the ‘Sonata Transform’, yesterday. Hyundai could sell only 233 units of the car from April-December 2008, as against 449 units in the same period the previous year. With the new launch, it hopes to push up the sales of the Sonata to at least 1,000 units an year.
On the other hand, the company has decided to postpone the launch of its new SUV, the Santa Fe, which was to be produced as a CBU in India. This is in view of the auto sector’s unstable state.
Hyundai’s other recently launched car, the i20, has already garnered a good degree of popularity, with the company bagging as many as 2,000 orders for the car in the very first month of its launch. Its sales-target for the i20 is 1,500 units per month and 20,000 units annually, in the domestic market.
