Hyundai India, the second largest car manufacturer in India is in the process of setting up a new flexible diesel engine plant to boost production and support new car launches along with diesel engine options. The carmaker expects to ramp up the competition with the new plant against rivals who have optional diesel and petrol car models.
The Korean carmaker already has two petrol engine manufacturing facilities in India with a total annual capacity of 6,50,000 units. The new diesel engine plant will the carmaker’s first in India and will have a capacity of 3,00,000 units annually.
The new diesel engine plant will cater to Hyundai’s existing diesel car models such as the Verna sedan, the i20 hatchback, the Elantra sedan and the Santa Fe SUV. The plant will also provide diesel engines for the carmaker’s upcoming car models with diesel options.
