Hyundai India to commence Eon exports to South Asia and Africa

Hyundai India is expected to commence export of the Eon small car by May 2012 to South Asian and African automobile markets. Hyundai, India’s second largest manufacturer of cars and the largest exporter by volume has been compelled to make the move due to sluggish sales in the European auto market.

The Eon small car is the company’s entry level model in India and is expected by the company to boost sales in the African and South Asian markets which are as price sensitive as the Indian automobile market. According to Mr. Arvind Saxena Director of Sales and Marketing at Hyundai Motor India, the small car has been selling 11,000-12,000 units in Indian domestic market eve month.

Other car models being exported by the South Korean car manufacturer from India are the hatchbacks Santro, the i10, the i20 and the Accent sedan.

Currently, the company exports cars from India to about 115 countries.
