Honda India to target diesel car market with new strategy

Honda India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda is planning to implement a new business strategy to target the diesel car market in the Indian car market. The announcement came from Mr. Jnaneshwar Sen Senior Vice President of Honda Cars India.

According to Mr. Sen, the carmaker was at a disadvantage in the Indian market due to the absence of a diesel car model in its portfolio. He added that without a diesel car model, the Japanese automaker was missing out on the diesel car surge.

Indian car market has witnessed a surge in the sale of diesel vehicles since the year 2011 owing to the increase in prices of petrol fuel and the comparatively higher efficiency offered by diesel engines.

The first diesel car model by Honda in India, the Amaze compact sedan launched on April 11, 2013 boasts of a mileage of 25.8 kilometers per liter and is claimed to be the most fuel efficient car in India. The automaker is now planning to introduce diesel versions of all the new car models in India.
