Honda Cars India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda has commenced operations at its second production facility in India. The new facility has been set up at Tapukara (Rajasthan) and the first car to roll out from the plant is the Amaze sedan.
The inauguration ceremony of the facility was attended by Ms. Vasundhara Raje CM Rajasthan along with Mr. Yasuhisa Kawamura Minister & Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of Japan in India. An amount of Rs. 3,526 crores has been invested by the carmaker in the setting up of this plant.
With the commencement of operations at the new facility, Honda will now be able to ramp up the production capacity to 2,40,000 units annually. The existing capacity of the carmaker in India was 1,20,000 units annually which were manufactured at the Greater Noida facility in Uttar Pradesh.
With the introduction of a diesel option with the Amaze compact sedan and the Honda City with a diesel version, the carmaker has opened up new avenues in the Indian car market and is witnessing significant increase in demand for its car models.
The new production facility will enhance the carmaker’s ability to meet and fulfill the increment in demand for the Amaze and the City car models.
