Honda Cars India has announced its plans to commence the exports of the car model Brio hatchback manufactured in India to South Africa. The carmaker is targeting the export of about 1,600 units of the Brio by the end of the fiscal 2012-13.

The wholly owned Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Honda manufactures about 2,500 units of the hatchback on a monthly basis. Mr. Jnaneswar Sen Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing), Honda Cars India commented that the export activity planned for South Africa will be the automaker’s first export roll-out from India. He added that the car manufacturer is also considering the Asia Pacific region to initiate exports.

The Brio hatchback has an entry level price of Rs 5,74,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi) and is available in two variants namely, the mid range ‘S’ version and the top end ‘V’ version.

The company has been ailing from falling sales in India due to the absence of diesel option in its product portfolio and is engaged in developing diesel engines to be introduced in its car models in India.
