Honda City takes the top position in Indian mid-size sedan segment

The newly launched fourth generation Honda City sedan by Honda Cars India, the wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese automaker Honda has overtaken the Hyundai Verna sedan in terms of sales in India.

The new car model has become the largest selling sedan in the mid-size sedan segment selling a total of 14,397 units since launch in comparison to 7,145 units sold by the Verna sedan by Hyundai India in the months of January and February 2014.

According to industry experts, the initial lack of a diesel engine option in its Indian car portfolio had been operating against Honda until it developed and launched diesel engines especially for the Indian car market in 2013 with the introduction of the Amaze compact sedan.

The launch of a diesel powered Honda City sedan has tipped the scale in favor of Honda enabling it to regain its market share in the Indian car market.
