Hindustan Motors to unveil a new car during Durga Puja

The makers of Ambassador Car, Hindustan Motors (HM) is all set to launch a new passenger car in October this year. This will be the first entirely new car after Contessa which was launched in 1980s.The car would be launched during Durga Puja and manufactured at the Uttarpara plant.

Speaking to the press, Mr. R. Santhanam, MD of HM mentioned that the company has, on its own, developed a new platform for the car. Though they had taken some technical inputs from others, the design is entirely their own. The prototype of the car is tested and ready.

HM is also working on a LPG version of the Ambassador, which would be launched around October.

The carmaker has a tie up with Mitsubishi Motors to produce cars in India. HM, which currently sells around 12,000 cars a year, is also looking to introduce the Mitsubishi SUV Outlander by September from the Chennai facility.
