High performance models BMW M3 and BMW M4 Coupe launched in India

BMW India, the Indian arm of the German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW has introduced its high performance car models, namely the BMW M3 and the BMW M4 Coupe in the Indian market. The new car models were inaugurated by prominent cricketer Mr. Sachin Tendulkar at the Buddh International Circuit at Greater Noida on November 27th, 2014.

The BMW M3 and the BMW M4 Coupé have been priced at Rs 1,19,80,000 (Ex-showroom India) and Rs 1,21,80,000 (Ex-showroom India) respectively and are now available across BMW dealerships in India. The new car models are currently being imported as Completely Built-Up (CBU) units.

While both of the new models are different in terms of body type and belong to different segments, the BMW M3 and the BMW M4 Coupé have many features in common.

Exterior Design:

The new performance car models feature the following design and features on the exterior.

  • A double-bar kidney grill with the ‘M’ emblem
  • Aerodynamic design features: Air curtains, flared wheel arches, M gills, air breathers, an integrated rear spoiler and diffuser in the rear apron
  • M Carbon roof enabling a reduced overall weight and a lower centre of gravity
  • Twin tailpipes featuring innovative flaps electronically controlled to minimize exhaust enabling better efficiency and a distinct BMW M sound

Interiors:

The features in the cockpit and interiors of the new cars are also similar with the M elements and theme playing an integral part of the design.

  • M Elements: M entry sills, M footrest, M gearshift, M circular dials, M leather steering wheel, M bucket-style seats
  • Driver oriented cockpit
  • M bucket-style seats placed in a manner to provide improved ergonomics and command of the vehicle

The M sports seats of the cars draw inspiration from the bucket seats used in motor racing, featuring a one-piece shell at the back and an asymmetrical 60/40 split as standard.

Infotainment Features:

The ConnectedDrive of the BMW M3 and the BMW M4 Coupé provide the driver with a wide range of information, entertainment and service features on the road such as the following:

  • BMW iDrive (the on-board Driver Information System) with touch controller
  • BMW Navigation Professional (Integrated GPS) – 22.35 cm color display with 3D maps
  • Full-color BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific views
  • Connectivity through Bluetooth and USB devices and BMW Apps
  • Park Distance Control (PDC) rear and front along with rear view camera as standard

Engine & Transmission:

The BMW M3 and the BMW M4 Coupé are powered by a three-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. Providing a power of 317 kW / 431, the engine enables an acceleration of 0 to 100 kilometers per hours in 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour.

The engine is mated to a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission with Drivelogic especially designed for the high-revving BMW M engine. The 7 gears are within fingers’ reach with the shift paddles on the M leather steering wheel.

Safety and Efficiency:

The safety features in the new luxury sports cars include air bags, Active M Differential, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including M Dynamic mode and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
The performance/fuel efficiency ratio of the new cars is further enabled by their lightweight construction, an automatic Start/Stop function, brake energy regeneration, electric power steering and a 50:50 weight distribution.

BMW’s M Series or the performance series was formerly BMW Motorsport which was initially created to facilitate BMW’s racing program. The subsidiary which is a part of the BMW Group now develops high performance luxury sports car models.
