GM’s business plans in India on track

General Motors’ Chevrolet Cruze will be launched in India in mid-2009, at the same time when it is launched in the rest of the world. The Cruze will be produced at GM’s manufacturing plant in Halol. The company’s second plant in India at Talegaon is being developed as a hub for small and mini-cars, and a new mini-car will be rolled out from there next year. At present, around 200 units of the Chevrolet Spark are being produced at the Talegaon plant everyday.

GM India Vice President, Mr. P. Balendran said that the Indian operations of the company have not been affected by its downturn in the US. GM India reported a sales growth of 6 per cent in October 2008, compared to last year, owing to the popularity of the Chevrolet Spark and the Chevrolet Captiva.
