GM India to enter joint venture with Reva

General Motors India is in the process of finalizing a joint venture with Bangalore-based Reva Electric Car Company (RECC), to roll out electric variants of the Chevrolet Spark. GM will source electric car technology from Reva to develop electric variants of the Spark, and will market the car both in India and in overseas markets. GM India Vice President (Corporate Affairs), Mr. P. Balendran, told media persons that the company has been looking at several alternative fuel options like bio-diesel, hydrogen, fuel cell etc., for a long time, and that its plans will be announced as soon as they are finalized. GM India and Reva will enter a 50:50 joint venture as soon as the former receives its parent company’s approval. The tie-up with Reva indicates that the Indian market is significant to GM, and also bears testimony to the company’s commitment to developing environment-friendly vehicles. GM had earlier said that electric vehicles were its preferred technology for the future.
