In the month of July 2012, the American automobile manufacturer General Motors has posted a 23.38 percent fall in its sales in India with total sales of 7,285 units. In comparison, the company had sold 9,508 units in the corresponding month in 2011.
General Motors India Vice President Mr. P Balendran commenting on the sales performance of the company stated that the consumer sentiments are very low and the industry is witnessing a slowdown in sales due to high interest rates and high fuel prices. He added that the company doesn’t expect the sales to improve before the festival season given the current situation.
The biggest contributors to the sales figures were the Beat hatchback with 4,354 units, followed by the Tavera MUV with 1,615 units. The company sold 534 units of the small car Spark, 501 units of the Cruze luxury sedan and 176 units of the Aveo entry level sedan.
