General Motors (GM) India, the Indian subsidiary of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors has posted a decline of 14.94 percent in its sales for the month of March 2013. The automaker sold a total of 9,006 units in the month in comparison to 10,588 units sold in the same month in 2012.
Among the car models by the American auto major, the Sail sedan by GM led the sales with 3,272 units, followed by the Beat hatchback with 3,006 units and the Tavera MPV with 1,853 units.
According to Mr. P Balendran Vice President GM India, the market sentiments are subdued despite numerous schemes offered by the carmaker resulting in fall in showroom traffic as well as enquiries. He added that the high interest rates, the high fuel prices and political uncertainties are to be blamed for the sluggish sales in the Indian automobile industry.
