General Motors India launches Chevrolet Sail

General Motors (GM) India, the Indian arm of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors has launched the Chevrolet Sail mid-size sedan in the India car market at an entry level price or Rs 4,99,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi). The new sedan is based on the platform of the Sail U-VA hatchback which was launched recently in November 2012.

The Chevrolet Sail sedan is similar to the U-VA hatchback with an additional boot and is expected to compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, the Toyota Etios sedan and the Mahindra Verito.

The Sail sedan is powered by a 1.2-liter engine in the petrol version and a 1.3-liter engine in the diesel, both of which are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The petrol engine offers 88PS of power, while the diesel engine offers 78PS of power.

The standard features of the sedan include AC, power steering and front power windows while the higher variants include a USB enabled music system. In terms of safety, the sedan has engine immobilizer as a standard feature while ABS and EBD are offered in the top level car variants.

While the entry level petrol variant of the car is priced at Rs 4,99,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi), the entry level diesel variant costs Rs 6,29,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi). The top petrol variant is priced at Rs 6,42,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi) and the top level diesel variant is available for Rs 7,52,000 (Ex-showroom Delhi).
