General Motors’ diesel engine facility in India to supply globally

American car manufacturer General Motors is planning to develop diesel engines for various car models to be launched in India. The company will use its diesel engine capability to supply diesel engines to its global markets such as North and South Africa. The diesel engine technology was developed by the company for its hatchback Beat diesel variant in India.

General Motors India has a series of car models lined up for launch and will be using its new diesel technology to offer diesel variants. Among the new cars to be launched are the Sail hatchback and the Sail sedan. According to Mr. Lowell Paddock President and Managing Director General Motors India, the diesel engines being developed for the cars models in India will also be used to enter new global markets where diesel powered cars are preferred and are on the rise.

The diesel engine technology has been developed by General Motors at its technical center in Bangalore.
