Ford India, the Indian arm of the American automobile manufacturer Ford has re-introduced the Ford Classic sedan in the Indian car market with a starting price of Rs 4,99,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new price of the sedan makes it cheaper by Rs 70,000 – Rs 1,00,000 in comparison to the earlier car model.
According to the carmaker, operational efficiencies have enabled it to lower prices for the sedan which is available with both petrol as well as diesel engine options. With the new lower price tag, the Ford Classic sedan now competes with not only the Fiat Linea Classic and the Honda City, but also with other sub 4 meter compact sedans such as the Honda Amaze, Maruti DZire and other upcoming compact sedans by Tata Motors and Hyundai.
The diesel version of the sedan is powered by a 1.4 liter TDCI engine, while the petrol version features a 1.6 liter Duratec petrol engine and both are mated to a 5-speed transmission.
The American automaker expects the low pricing of the Ford Classic to bring in more customers and help it boost sales amid slow down and low economic activity in the Indian auto market.
